Secure E-mail Service

Secure E-mail Service

Business Email Compromise (BEC) is a dangerous form of cybercrime, with damages exceeding $20 billion per year worldwide. KeyTalk offers a very strong and simple ‘first line of defense’, in collaboration with DigiCert and GlobalSign.

What do the CEO fraud at Pathé (€19 million), email fraud at Belgian bank Crelan (€70 million), and email scam at Toyota Boshoku ($37 million) have in common? KeyTalk could have prevented these cases of identity fraud.

It may sound distant, but Business Email Compromise (BEC), like CEO fraud, occurs frequently. Fraudsters infiltrate the mail server and adopt the communication style of the CEO or other high-ranking individuals. They prepare very well using public information and inadequately-secured internal sources. Sometimes, they observe for months before striking. This kind of identity fraud is one of the many reasons to take solid security of the email environment seriously.

Fortunately, there is an easy-to-implement ‘first line of defense’: the KeyTalk Secure Email Service (SES), in collaboration with DigiCert and GlobalSign.

Simple digital signing with S/MIME

KeyTalk Secure Email Service (SES) involves digitally signing and optionally encrypting all messages from employees. Using an S/MIME certificate, all mail exchanges are provided with a digital signature, which serves as proof of the sender’s identity. The recipient can see at a glance whether the message from the CEO, financial administration, or colleague is signed. If it is not, you immediately know something is amiss.

Important to know: S/MIME is not new. This secure variant of the standard MIME protocol dates back to 1996. Twenty years after its introduction, S/MIME is still barely adopted. The technology is sound, but both implementation and management are cumbersome and fairly complicated.

With KeyTalk, we remove those practical objections. Our software makes implementation and management accessible and requires no extensive expertise or time investment. You can effortlessly retrieve, install, and deploy certificates en masse to employees. Outlook and other common email clients are automatically configured without any effort from end-users. Signing occurs by default, and encryption can be applied optionally.

A signed email is easily recognizable by the symbol in the header:

“Although we were one of the first customers to choose the combined Secure Email Service from GlobalSign & KeyTalk and we had to overcome some initial hurdles, we got fantastic support from the KeyTalk team and the service is working perfectly now. I would absolutely recommend their Secure Email Service to any company that needs easy-to-use end-to-end secure email communication.

First line of defence tegen Business Email Compromise

KeyTalk SES provides the perfect ‘first line of defense‘ against BEC scams and makes the deployment of S/MIME very simple. This is true even in cases of a complex infrastructure, large numbers of internal and external contacts, or the use of temporary certificates. Whether it’s tens of thousands of users or just a small group of users – KeyTalk truly enables secure email for every organization.

The benefits summarized:

  • Rolling out and managing S/MIME certificates has never been so easy. We make implementation and use very straightforward. No intensive knowledge or time investment is needed. Deployment can often be achieved within a day.
  • Digitally signing emails is robust, a proven technology. KeyTalk integrates all necessary components into a complete solution (automated request, deployment, installation, and configuration of the S/MIME certificate).
  • Employees can continue using their trusted email client, as KeyTalk supports most common clients. Every outgoing email will automatically be provided with a digital signature, ensuring the recipient of the message’s origin.
  • The Secure Email Service is competitively priced and can be easily scaled up or down.
